Tomokichi Hidaka is a novelist, manga artist, and illustrator. While he was studying at Waseda University, he was an active member of the university manga research club, and he made his debut as a manga artist soon after his graduation in 1994 with Paradaisu rosuto (Paradise Lost). Around that time, he also contributed to the SF fanzine PARADOX with “Anbisutoma no daimeikyū (The Great Labyrinth of Ambystoma).” He has been working mainly as a manga artist, with works centered on culture and humor, such as Tōkyō hakubutsushi (Tokyo Natural History), Genshoku himatsubushi zukan (An Illustrated Book on Killing Time with Primary Colors), and Dāwin no nozokiana (Darwin’s Peephole), which is based on Menno Schilthuizen’s book. In 2017, he published the Satoyama kidan (Tales from Satoyama) series, a collection of strange stories co-authored with coco and Kazus Tamagawa, resuming his activities as an author. In his 2021 single-authored novel collection Reonora no tamago (Leonora’s Egg), he develops a unique world where he mixes bizarre, legendary, and the fantastical elements. He has been working as a part-time lecturer at Kyoto Seika University since 2012 and as a full-time lecturer at Kaishi Professional University since 2021.
