Makoto Yamagishi is a translator focusing on SF works. He was born in 1962 and graduated from Saitama University’s College of Liberal Arts (American Studies Course). His Japanese translations include Greg Egan’s novels Quarantine, Permutation City, Distress, Diaspora, and Incandescence; as well as Greg Egan’s short story collections Oceanic and Other Stories, Reasons to Be Cheerful and Other Stories, and Bit Players and Other Stories, among others. He also translated Michael Coney’s Hello Summer, Goodbye, and I Remember Pallahaxi, and edited numerous books such as 80 nendai SF kessakusen (SF Masterpieces of the 80s), co-edited with Takashi Ogawa; the 6 volumes of 20 seiki SF (20th Century SF), co-edited with Toru Nakamura; and SF Magazine (no 700)’s special issue on foreign science fiction.
