筑波大学比較文化学類卒、シカゴ大学にて人文学修士号取得。
「天駆せよ法勝寺」（九重塔が宇宙船となり彼方の星にある大仏を訪れる仏飛びSF）で第9回創元SF短編賞受賞。「Final Anchors」（2台のAI自動運転車が衝突寸前の0.5秒で対話する。伴名練編『新しい世界を生きるための14のSF』（早川書房）所収）で第5回日経「星新一賞」グランプリ、「蓮食い人」で同優秀賞をダブル受賞。
企業向けにSFプロトタイピングを実施。2023年1月から「リベラルアーツ for Business」（AEON・KDDI主催）で「SFプロトタイピング入門―想像を超えるアイデアを生み出しイノベーションを実現する」ワークショップ講師。
現在『天駆せよ法勝寺［長編版］』を執筆中。「序章」である短編「応信せよ尊勝寺」は『Genesis この光が落ちないように創元日本SFアンソロジー』（東京創元社）所収。

Yugen Yashima is an award-winning author. He writes stories of science fiction, fantasy, horror, mystery, sometimes fusing the genres together. He was born and raised in Japan. He received his MA from the University of Chicago after studying comparative culture at Tsukuba University. In 2018, he won the 9th Sogen SF Short Story Prize for “Ten kuseyo hosshōji (Hosshōji the Rocket Temple).” This is a work of Buddhist science fiction and, more specifically, Buddhpunk. In the same year, he also won the Grand Prix at the 5th Nikkei Shin’ichi Hoshi Award Grand Prix for “Final Anchors” and a merit award for “Hasukuibito (Lotus Eaters).” His stories have also been translated and published in China.
